What is exactly vaginal yeast infection?

Vaginal yeast is a fungus scientifically called “candida albicans“.  This fungus is responsible for vaginal yeast infection.

Vaginal yeast infection occurs when yeast is introduced in the vaginal area or during an increased of yeast already present.  Yeast infections result from an overgrowth of yeast in the body.  The intestines which contains the yeast organism “candida” sometimes may spread in other areas of the body.

Vaginal yeast infection is not a sexually transmitted infection.  It may occur to women who don’t have sexual intercourse, and yeast can also be present in non-infected vagina.  However, men may develop some symptoms of yeast infection after sexual intercourse with an infected partner.

What are the symptoms of yeast infection?

  • Severe itching in the vaginal area
  • Burning sensation
  • Soreness
  • White vaginal discharge

How is vaginal yeast infection diagnosed?

The best way to diagnose vaginal yeast infection is to have a specimen scraped and do a microscopic analysis.
